Stop and Stare

Mommies pushing strollers are a dime a dozen here. Throw in a Bernese Mountain puppy and some twins though and you're guaranteed lots of attention. And this photo was being taken by our pal who is 37 weeks pregnant. We made a fairly remarkable crew the other day on Bahnhofstrasse. But only Bosco the dog had his picture taken by a passing crowd of Japanese tourists. They probably would have stopped for Townes but he's tough to see when bundled up in his kinderwagon.

Inauguration Day

From the frontpage of today's Tages Anzeiger (Zurich daily newspaper), which reads "An example for America and for us". Regardless of your views on the last eight years, it's refreshing for America to be viewed as a positive model again in Europe. After Obama sealed the election, a European friend remarked to me that Obama's election marks a key difference between American and Europe: in America it is possible for a black man to be president. That's something to be quite proud of.

While it remains to be seen how long European optimism will actually last, it's nevertheless fun to be the popular kids in Europe for a little while.

The headline is also interesting considering the general mistrust of "the Other" that is cropping up once again in the SVP's (Swiss People's Party) political campaign posters. Instead of black sheep, we have ravens picking apart Switzerland:

I'm looking forward to the next symbol of immigrated evil from the SVP....maybe Tom will want to get some extra mileage out of that eyepatch he's been sporting for Valkyrie.

Now that's scary.

Life outside of the...

The Ramones have sold the rights to "Beat on the Brat" to a company that makes lullabies. In the word of Lars Nilsson, "Cool".

Here are some other parts of Fall 2008, in addition to incubating Townsend,

Interesting conversations...

Caught up over beers...

Stayed up late...

Got up early...

Saw our first Banksy...

Made new friends...

Went back to old places...

Were surprised by some new ones...

Thought about a certain body...

Saw some cool museums...

Watched things change...

Enjoyed the single life...

Played with our camera...

Took naps...

Morning coffee with the Blocks...

...and saw some things
that made us just a bit curious.

It was a good Fall.

We've been busy with chores

Sorry no posts lately. We're trying to assign some tasks to Townes so we can keep up with the blogging.

Enjoying dad on banjo, David on guitar (not pictured) and mom's lap. Thanks for the photo, Laurie!

2009 started with a snore...

The grandparents headed up the street to our neighbor's apartment by 10pm. And since Townes was asleep, I decided to 'rest my eyes' as well. Coy forgot to wake me up for a kiss as midnight struck. He was busy reading The Federalist Papers. Yep, parenthood marks a shift in priorities! We're excited about all the new things to come in 2009. Enjoy the shots of our favorite snoozer.
